Understanding your baby’s cries

with Nasama

A baby’s cries can be a source of stress for new parents. It’s easy to feel powerless and unsure about how to respond to their needs. By learning the Dunstan baby language, you’ll gain the tools to decode the five distinct sounds that all newborns make to express their needs.

What to expect?

Nasama offers workshops to help you understand your baby’s cries. Crying is a natural part of a baby’s communication, alongside body language. This workshop helps you tune into your baby’s signals so you can respond appropriately rather than feeling overwhelmed.

This workshop is designed for expecting parents, parents of babies aged 0-5 months, professionals in perinatal care and early childhood education

Empowering both parents

Understanding baby’s cries helps both parents feel more involved and confident.

Does it really work?

Yes! The Dunstan baby language is backed by over eight years of scientific research.

It highlights the fact that babies communicate through distinct sounds to express their feelings and needs.

All newborns worldwide express their physiological needs through body language and crying. Priscilla Dunstan, an opera singer in Sydney, discovered after the birth of her baby that cries for hunger, sleep, digestive discomfort, general discomfort, or a trapped burp are the same across all cultures. Fantastic, isn’t it?

Learning to decode cries through the Dunstan Baby Language allows you to build a calm and connected relationship with your baby from the very first moments.

As parents, we may:

  • Fear not understanding our baby

  • Worry about not being ready

  • Feel helpless when faced with frequent crying

What are the benefits?

The ability to understand your baby's cries has advantages for both their well-being and yours. It helps create a strong bond with your baby and fosters a peaceful family environment.

With the Dunstan Baby Language:

  • Your baby cries less often because they feel understood.

  • Your baby is calmer, reducing the release of stress hormones.

  • Your baby enjoys more restful sleep.

  • Understanding your baby’s cries strengthens your confidence as a parent and your self-esteem.

  • It enriches your bond with your child in a nurturing and responsive way.

  • It helps the second parent find their place in caregiving.

This method also significantly reduces the risk of postpartum depression and shaken baby syndrome.

This approach is especially valuable during a baby’s first months, from birth to around five months old.

Why join a DBL workshop with nasama?

Attending a workshop helps you effectively recognize the five Dunstan Baby Language (DBL) sounds that indicate your baby’s needs. You will learn to understand, soothe, and support your baby through their cries.

The workshop is designed for expectant parents and parents of babies under five months old.

Early childhood professionals can also train in the Dunstan Baby Language to decode sounds and comfort the babies in their care.
